A Life Changed Overnight
Alice, a Christian nurse, was taken in 2017 during a period when Boko Haram and its splinter groups were intensifying their reign of terror in northeastern Nigeria. Isolated from her family and thrust into unimaginable conditions, Alice’s faith became her anchor. She endured years of captivity, raising a child born during this harrowing time.
A Daring Escape
In October, Alice seized the moment she had prayed for. Alongside another abductee, Fayina Ali Akilawus, and her 3-year-old son, she slipped away from the militants’ camp under the cover of dusk. The escape was nothing short of miraculous. Traveling through treacherous terrain by donkey, ox cart, boat, and car, they evaded recapture for over three days.
Their journey ended at a military outpost in northeastern Nigeria, where Alice and Fayina were finally safe. Their arrival was met with an eruption of joy, the women shouting praises to Jesus, overwhelmed by their newfound freedom.
