Authorities in Texas are on the hunt for Dawayland Hurst, who is accused of the brutal murder of 24-year-old MaryJayne Collins. The Seabrook Police Department responded to an emergency call on October 4, discovering Collins unresponsive in her home. Initially believed to be a shooting, the investigation later revealed that she had been stabbed to death. Disturbingly, two young children were present in the home at the time but were fortunately unharmed.
The case is connected to a prior tragedy: Hurst’s half-brother, Diajwan Triplett, was murdered in Texas City in January 2020, a crime for which Michael King, 25, was convicted. Authorities have established a link between Hurst and Collins, who was King’s ex-girlfriend and the mother of his child. Reports indicate that Hurst and Collins began dating in June, but their relationship quickly deteriorated into an abusive one, with Collins reportedly showing friends and family visible injuries.
On the day of the murder, it was reported that King, who was incarcerated, managed to make a FaceTime call to Collins. During the call, Hurst allegedly taunted King by slapping his child, leading to Collins pleading in the background, “No, get away, baby, get away from him.” Following this disturbing exchange, King’s mother took to Facebook to urge others to check on Collins.
As the search for Hurst continues, the community remains in shock over the violent turn of events and the tragic circumstances surrounding Collins’ death.
